Home / Rome Travel Tips / Hotels in Rome
Rome is a large city and there are all types of accommodations spread over a wide area. Here are some of the best areas to stay in Rome for tourists:
Historic Center (Centro Storico): The heart of ancient Rome, within walking distance to major attractions like the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Navona. Ideal for first-time visitors, though prices tend to be higher. Can be very crowded for pedestrians!
Vatican/Prati: Clean, upscale neighborhood near St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Good shopping and restaurants, slightly removed from the tourist crowds.
Trastevere: Charming, bohemian area with cobblestone streets, excellent restaurants, and lively nightlife. Popular with younger travelers and those seeking authentic Roman atmosphere.
Monti: Hip, local neighborhood between the Colosseum and Termini Station. Great for boutique shopping, wine bars, and authentic restaurants while still being central.
Spanish Steps/Via Veneto: Upscale shopping district with luxury hotels and designer boutiques. Convenient location but one of the most expensive areas.
Termini/Repubblica: Near the main train station, more affordable accommodations but less atmospheric. Convenient for transport connections but can be hectic at night.
